I have a PowerEdge 2950 running Windows 2003 standard server and hosting SQL 2005. On Sunday, it started rebooting. The logs point to the internal PERC 5i RAID controller [bad battery]. It is a 2006 server and it may well be the card.
I checked on the Dell support website and they forecast one to two weeks for a rebuilt card. That is a bit long as we use this server heavily.
I did do some digging on the known issue with the firmware; we are behind - and we are getting the necessary updates downloaded and prepped but I like to work both sides of the problem.
