I'm having a lot of difficulty getting MS or Dell to activate my user's laptop. Bear with me... there's some context to this.
It came with Win7 Pro preinstalled. Windows was acting buggy and slow so I did a re-install (which is a big deal since we use Dropbox heavily and it takes a whole weekend to fully sync). Normally, there is a Win7 sticker with a key in the bottom that I just put in but this laptop came with a Win8 sticker and no key.
I contacted Dell hoping for a key and they tell me they can't give me a key despite the error with the stickers and the only option is to reinstall from CD. I can't do that since the user can't have any more downtime and needs his laptop even on the weekends.
I get the idea to extract the key by imaging his laptop 1st, reinstalling Win7 from Dell CD, running jellybean...
