I'm trying to spec a PowerEdge R510 on Dell's website.
If I choose the 8-slot chassis (up to 8 hot-swappable HDDs), and also select 8 x 1TB near-line SAS drives, and select an H700 RAID controller with all drives in RAID 10, I get this error:
" Hard Drive Configuration with RAID 10 requires a maximum total Hard Drive capacity of 3.6TB. This can be overridden when UEFI BIOS is selected from OS Partition or Advanced System Configuration module".
I assume the "OS Partition Module" and/or the "Advanced System Configuration Module" are configuration subsections on the website, but there is no subsection labeled "Advanced System Configuration", and even though there is a subsection labeled "OS Partition", even if I choose "80 GB OS Partition GPT Enabled", it doesn't make the Configuration Error warning go away (and yes, it does say "GPT Enabled" and nothing about UEFI).
If I choose 8x 300GB 10k SAS drives, the configuration error DOES go away, but I really want more space and to have one big RAID 10 array.
I get that Windows will either boot from MBR partitions, and those are limited to 2 TB, or Windows can boot to GPT partitions as long as the OS is x64 (it is, it is Server 2008 R2) AND the hardware is using UEFI instead of BIOS (I can't tell if this is available on the PE R510 as it is not a selectable option on any of the screens, unless I can interpret the "80 GB OS Partition GPT Enabled" as meaning there is a UEFI chip on the board, but again, selecting this does NOT make the configuration error listed above go away...
Is there something I'm missing?
