I need to create a trunk connection between a poweredge 6248 and 6224. I can not stack them since they are about 200 feet apart.
The network structure is as such:
-Firewall (Sonicwall) (Router)
-Dell 3448 Port 1 is setup as a TRUNK, and connects to the sonicwall, Device has 2 VLANs (1,2)
-Dell 6224, Port 24 is setup as ACCESS and connects to the 3548 Device has 1 VLAN.
The new 6248 must be connected to the 6224 since that is the only switch with open ports. I think i need to reconfigure the 6224 and create the 2nd VLAN, VLAN2, then the port on the 6224 needs to be configured to be TRUNK to the upstream 3548. Next I can configure the first port on the 6248 to be a TRUNK port to uplink to the to the next switch, 3548.
A few questions:
-The port that uplinks to the next switch, that has to be a TRUNK port, what does the port that is reeving it need to be configured as?
-Since the 3548 is the first switch after the router (sonciwall) all traffic will have to pass through it, and between the 6224, will this negativly impact performance? Would it be better to reconfigure the network to have the 6224 bet the first switch off the sonicwall, and then have both the 3548 and the new 6248 connect to the 6224, and then connect to the router?
