I'm trying to find information about PowerEdge r640 and it's ability to handle both 2.5" SATA SSDs and front-loaded / hot-swappable 2.5" U.2 NVMes. The online configurator provides one interesting chassis layout: " 2.5" Chassis with up to 10 Hard Drives, 8 NVMe Drives and 3PCIe Slots, 2CPU only"
Does it mean that 8 of the front disk slots can be used interchangeably for SSDs or NVMes? Can I, at any time of the server life, turn it off, remove few SSDs and replace them with NVMes?
I'm only asking from the hardware perspective only - having OS reconfigured / reinstalled is not a problem.
Are the caddies for NVMe and SSD identical?
