I have some servers I am going to upgrade (PowerEdge R710) with hard drives and memory. Since this is my first experience with Dell Servers, I'm confused about the pro's and con's of using or not using Dell Certified drives. I'd like to hear others experience with this.
My take is why pay the extra if the drives work with the Perc controller? Have a spare drive so you don't have to wait 4 hours for another to show up. This is what I have done for over 15 years with my HP Servers, with absolutely no issues - ever.
Also, even though the Servers are still under warranty, why do I want to pay the extra money when hard drives are not going to cause other server parts to go out?
Tell me where I'm going wrong.
