Dell Command Configure --tpmclear

I am trying to use the Dell Command Configure (Version 4.1) in a backup & wipe SCCM Task Sequence. What this would be used for is to backup the hard drive to a NAS using a script, then use the Dell Command Configure to clear the TPM chip of its owner keys and then clear the BIOS password and reset the BIOS to defaults. So I can replace the computer and dispose of the old one.

The line I am trying to do to clear the TPM keys are:

cctk.exe --TpmClear=Enabled --valsetuppwd=password

When I run this line either in a Task Sequence or manually through command prompt I receive the following error:

Attempt to write read-only parameter 'TpmClear'

All of my Dell models that have TPM chips have BitLocker enabled so I want to clear the TPM keys before disposal. I have tried this same command on the following models with the latest firmware version:

Redirecting USB optical drive - Dell Wyse 3040

Having a little issue with trying to use USB optical drives on Dell Wyse thin clients. Flash drives and headsets all redirect fine automatically. When plugged in the optical drive powers on and spins the disc, but never shows up in the Windows OS (Server 2016). It does show up in the even log of the thin client, which says something like this:

20:14:34 VUSB: Local Device (0x046d, .....)

However, when other devices are plugged in (the ones that work) they say "Redirectable device" instead of "Local Device"

Any idea what I need to do to use this drive over RDP?

Good price 3 screen graphics card? For Dell Optiplex 3050

Could anyone recommend a 3 Screen graphics card for work purposes, that would fit the Dell Optiplex 3050 Mini Tower?

It supports a PCIe card, and I specifically asked my supplier to order a custom build of this machine but they still send a two screen card and said they can send an adapter (which doesn't help because it requires an power supply)

I'm dubious what will actually fit in it and we've already paid £900 for the machine.

Domain Controller Specs

I'm needing to upgrade my DC's and thought I would see what you guys think I would need in the way of a server components - RAM, Array size, drives etc.

We are a single domain (2008 R2 functional Level) with roughly 50 people with workstations and some servers.  The server will only be an AD server with DNS and DHCP.  Any need for more than one processor?  16 GB RAM?  10,000 RPM drives in a RAID 10 array.

Thoughts?

Dell R740 not recongizing memory module in slot A1

I have a Dell R740 Gen14 server with dual processors.

Dell shipped the server with ~28GB Hynix memory modules in slot A1 and B1. The server recognized this just fine.

I recently purchased ~8 16GB Samsungmemory module and populated the RAM as such: A1 B1, A2 B2, A3 B3, A4 B4. Everything was recognized by the server except slot A1

I initially thought it was a bad memory module, so I swapped it with a known working module but the system still did not recognize that there is a module in slot A1.

I put back the ~2 8GB Hynix modules in slot A1 and B1 and the system recognized the modules just fine.

So apparently A1 is not a bad slot and my Samsung memory modules are not bad either. What gives?

Here are the errors:

Need an expert on disk partitions - Can't P2V because of a funky Reserved part.

We have a Dell R730 server Running Windows 2012 R2that was put in production pretty much "as is". When you look at the list of partition in Disk Manager you see 3:

  • 300 MB
    Healthy (Recovery Partition)
  • 260 MB
    Helthy (EFI System Partition)
  • (C:)
    557.70 GB NTFS
Healthy (Boot, Pagefile, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

When you look in DiskPart and list the partitions you see an extra partition in there:

DISKPART list part

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Recovery 300 MB 1024 KB
Partition 2 System 260 MB 301 MB
Partition 3 Reserved 128 MB 561 MB<<-- Extra
Partition 4 Primary 557 GB 689 MB

But when you list the volumes in DiskPart, it is not listed:

Dell 7390 BSOD

Does anyone else have Dell 7390 laptops in their environment? We have a few and have had various problems with them over the past few months. The most recent issue seems to be a real head scratcher (even for Dell Support). The laptop will blue screen randomly and will not generate a dump file. On this one particular device, Dell has already replaced the SSD and motherboard but the issue persists. Their latest response claims this:

"We are currently working with multiple partner vendors to determine the root cause, and ultimate resolution for this issue. The motherboard replacement has been found to reduce impact or resolve, in some, but not all cases. It is not seen as a guaranteed solution. I apologize if this was not communicated before the on-site service was created.Since this is a systemic issue, we are unable to issue an exchange,...

Lattitude 7390 BSOD Issue - Intel HD Driver possible cause

I had a issue with a Lattitude 7390 that was occasionally BSODing. Their was not much pattern in the BSOD's, other then that

1. All the BSOD's were WHEA UNCORRECTABLE

2. The BSOD's were a hard hang (stuck at 0%)

Some things I checked

1. Event viewer showed no patterns (no notable errors/warnings/etc) prior to BSOD

2. Event viewer shows a KERNEL POWER however bugcheck is 0, and other information as well is all 0

3. BSOD's would never produce any dump files at all

4.This would happen on a fully updated Windows 10 OS, or a fresh image, or a Dell Image

5. SSD was swapped out as well as motherboard, neither solving the issue

6. Memtest, Dell Diagnostics (both bios one and windows one), etc, all passes

7. This would happen regardless of whether everything was updated to latest version via Dell Command

Workaround I found

1. Uninstalling Intel HD Graphics...

Dell Onsite Repair - Per call ?

I presume the 3rd parties that does the onsite for Dell get paid per call/per ticket ?

Got a tech now who's doing a trackpad replacement. During breakdown, he noticed the battery was a tinge swollen. Going to request to do a round 2 and request the battery be replaced. Pro Bono both ways then - client/servicing 3rd party ?

Hi Everyone,

We've just bought a LSI SAS 9300-8i, PCIe 3.0 x8 card and we want to run it inside a Dell R720 with 4x1TB SSD disks in RAID 10.

I've been looking for enterprise disks to run with this controller and can't find a proper list anywhere.

For the people running this controller, could you please let me know which disks you have with it? We're looking  for 800GB-1TB disks.

Thank you!

Daniel

Dear Spiceworks users,

I have my extended warranty renewal coming up on our Poweredge R-320 Server I recently talk to our Vendor Dell to request a quote for renewal to my surprise prices are really high for a 4 hour response or the next business day 3.5k for 4 hours response & 2.2k for next day.

My questions are?

1. Pay for the extended warranty all parts replacement included.

2. should I just buy a Server from Ebay with the same specs for 400$ and maybe upgrade the storage size.(can be used for testing, training until is needed in case the main Server fails

3. Buy a new  Server.

I have Barracuda backup solution so it will take me less than 4 hours to get back online with the backup Server(This will be the Server that i can get from Ebay.

Dell Mini Tower Vs. Small Form Factor - Hardware fixes Pros and Cons

$

We are looking to get some Dell Optiplex PCs.  We are interested in Mini Tower(MT) or Small Form Factor(SFF) models only.    Not the Micro SFF.

We checked the specs/ports/slots for both MT vs. SFF models and either one works fine for us.

SFF will take up less desk space. We are fine with that too.

Now coming to the future hardware repair/upgrade questions which form factors are easy to finish tasks ?

Lets say in future if we have to repair/upgrade   PSU,RAM,HDD..etc    Which form factor would be easy to finish the task and even find the parts ?

Help - Need to Upgrade My Power Supply for a Dell OptiPlex 990 MT

I need to upgrade my Power Supply in my OptiPlex 990 MiniTower ( I've included a photo below of it as well to clear any confusion between if it's a MT, Micro, SFF, etc), in order to upgrade my graphics card.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB and it's just not cutting it for me right now with 3 monitors.

Will either of the below fit and adapt to the case of the 990? Is there any reason this won't work because of the motherboard or other issues? The current PSU I believe is 265 watts, not very GPU friendly.

Dell 3020 Not Powering On

Yes I have a Dell 3020 desktop that is not powering on. I installed a 450 watt PSU into this desktop to power an Nvidia graphics card using a 24pin to 8pin adapter and the unit will not power on. Nothing happens when I press the power button. The orange light is lit on the MOBO which I read means its getting power. I figured it wasn't going to work so installed all the oem parts, graphics card and PSU and still having the issue. Desktop was working perfectly fine before I swapped the parts and really hoping I didn't somehow mess up the motherboard. I even installed the 450 watt PSU and graphics card into another desktop and they work fine. Any help would be amazing.

Hi Gents,

We would like to ask if we can recover files from the HDDs of a powervault nx300? The server is currently down due to psu failure and the client really needs the files on the NAS appliance. Do we have tools from dell that we can use to recover files from the hdd?
