MD3000i Critical Alert Message

I have been receiving the following error message from our MD3000i for a little while now. I get a couple messages per week, and everything I research online says it's nothing to worry about.

From what I can understand, this error pertains to one of the communication ports (either iSCSI or LAN). Well, our box is only connected via a switch. So I am not entirely sure what Component location 0-1 would refer to.

Dell R740xd - SSD arrays performance lacking?

I've got two brand new Dell R740xd's.  Each has two arrays on them - a RAID10 array consisting of 20x 15K SAS HDD's and another RAID10 array consisting of 4x 12Gbps read intensive SAS SSD's.  The controller is a PERC H740P.  We've set up ESXi 6.5 and vCenter.  I've put a couple of test VM's on the hosts to start doing some benchmarking but I'm not seeing the performance I expected out of the SSD arrays.  Using Crystal Mark, (which may not be the best tool for what I'm trying to do), the HDD arrays seem to have roughly the same performance as the SSD arrays.

The screenshot with 6988 as the sequential read speed is the SSD array.  Do these results make sense?  Should I be testing using a different method?

Dell Readyrails Stuck

I have a Dell R430 with Readyrails in my server rack, and the server got stuck when I went to slide it out to work on it.  Now I can't slide it back in.  Here are screenshots of both sides of the server.  Any suggestions?

OS for PE 2850

I have a PowerEdge 2850 and want to use a windows OS on it, I have a copy of WS 2012 R2 and am hoping that will work on it, does anyone have some insight on this? I know that specs say that WS 2003 is the supported version but that must be next to impossible to find. Thanks in advance.

Issues after firmware upgrade on Dell PowerConnect Switch

An office has two Dell PowerConnect 6248P switches in a stack. They were running old firmware (2.2.x.x) and we upgraded both switches per the instructions packaged with the firmware. It was done from the Console using a serial connection. Upgrade went according to instructions and boot-code was updated on both switches per instructions. After boot, however, chaos. Main VLAN not working, phone VLAN not working. Cannot access switch GUI via IP.

When trying to reconnect via the serial port, the display is flooded with the following:

where x.x. is my DHCP server. I'm guessing that the configuration is screwed but don't know how to even start when I can't get a stable CONSOLE prompt. HELP!

I have shared folder in my network on windows, i need to download IDRAC TSR logs and save those logs there on shared folder

I have given ip address , path,username and password as well but even after that also am not able to get the connection test network connection fails

SC4020 & 5020 licensing

Hi All,

We are currently in possession of some used Dell Storage SC4020 and SC5020 hardware that unfortunately doesn’t have an OS still on it.

We have all of the drives and hardware but the OS’s on the controllers have been wiped.

Does anyone know of any supplier/vendor who is able to supply the operating systems and licensing for used Dell Storage systems?

We have tried Dell direct but they are unable to supply support contracts to kit not directly purchased from them (even though we’re willing to pay!)

Dell OMSA not opening

Hi, 

One of the Dell server is running out disk space so I'm about to check remotely since the server location is really far from where I am right now. So I open Dell OMSA or Openmanage Server Admin but it just shows page cannot be displayed. So I downloaded the Dell OMSA installaer, did a custom install and manually installed Remote Enablement, reboot machine but still the same issue.

Problems with Recovering RAID-1 (Dell Precision Tower 7810)

It's a Friday evening and the IT guy is still at work fixing a problem that can't wait until next week (of course). I could sure use some advice from those who've been through what I'm about to describe.

(Don't shoot this OP, I'm just sayin' how it is; not defending it.)

Got a 3-year old 7810 running SolidWorks and a bit of Autodesk for one of our toolmakers. Whoever set this system up should have known better.Two hard-drives; a 256 GB M.2 SSD and a 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD configured in RAID-1. (I know, I know)

Had a ticket hit my queue about mid-day on this same computer. Acting odd and slow performance. No mini-dump file. Nothing odd in the System or Application logs. So I flushed all the temp files, rebooted and ran ePSA - all green. Logged back in and checked Device Manager - good to go. Checked Disk Management and saw it had (what I...

Tried to update Dell PERC 6/i firmware on Dell PE VMware hosts...but it failed

Major headache here because we only get maybe 3 server maintenance windows a year, so I'm going to have a wait a while to take another run at this:

- Dell PowerEdge R710 & a Dell PE R730xd
- Both need firmware updates for their RAID cards:PERC 6/i Integrated (R710) & PERC H730P Mini (R730xd)

Dell OpenManage shows (R710):
Firmware Version 6.2.0-0013
Minimum Required Firmware Version 6.3.3-0002
Driver Version 06.805.56.00

...and for the R730xd:
Firmware Version 25.3.0.0016
Minimum Required Firmware Version 25.4.0.0011
Driver Version 6.606.12.00

I created ISO's from Dell Enterprise Repository Manager, wrote the ISO's to flash drives and booted the servers to them during the maintenance window: 1 failed...flash drive simply wouldn't boot (the R710) and 1 succeeded (or at least seemed to - the R730xd)

I have a client who is setting up additional kiosks and is in need of two (2) Dell OptiPlex 3000 3040 (or 3050) micro form factor. The can be refurbished as long as they look new. Here are the specs:

Intel core i3 (6th Gen) i3-6100 3.20 GHz (or newer)
8 GB DDR3L SDRAM
128 GB SSD
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Micro form factor
DVD-Writer

Any ideas where I can find these?

Which model and what year did Windows 10 become the standard/default on Dell Optiplex machines?

Like many I use refurbished Dell Optiplex machines and at the moment official MS refurbishers are installing Windows 10 Home on used office machines (a breach of license and common sense for me to use) or peddling out 780s etc with the so called 'free' upgrade, which will in all likelihood fail on reinstall or will be too old for relevant drivers.

I know at some point Optiplexes (?) will start to come through with OEM Windows 10 licensing, I just need to know which to look for. I'm needing a machine supporting SLAT to control a new Hyper V server from.

wwyd - PC damaged during shipment

Hi,

Got a good one here. An associate shipped back a Dell Precision (without insurance ugh!). The box was clearly cornered, and see pic for outside damage. It was actually worse, but I was able to bend it mostly back into place.

The PC itself, when plugged in, just goes into super high fan mode. Nothing on the monitor, the video card does not fire up (fan doesn't initiate), and that's all the unit does, high fan mode, nothing else.

I've tried reseating all the cables, video card, HDD, and memory, to no avail.

I'm guessing that I need to replace the steel grate/panel, and the motherboard, but who knows what actually didn't survive the shock of the actual blow that did the damage.

This is a $3000 machine custom built for CAD, so I don't want to give up on it and write it off as a loss.

Dell 7060 UEFI Imaging

We just received a bunch of Dell 7060, we're currently using Ghost Solution 3.2 to pxe boot machines. However, I've never done UEFI boot/imaging before. I've check the symantec support site and run into dead ends. Anyone has an idea how i can accomplish this?

LifeCycle Firmware Rollback not present

Hey there,

Got an issue with LifeCycle Firmware Rollback.

On 2 Dell servers (R720 and R730) I had to do multiple firmware updates.

I could notice that the firmware rollbacks are not always available, I had this issue for Bios update for instance, since I have some update automatisation to do, this makes my tests more complex.

Any clue ?

Dell SAS 6/iR - storage controller (RAID) Failed HDD

I have a Power Edge T310 running server 2008 x64 standard. It has a Degraded RAID status and drive 0 is shown missing from the LSI corp config. Drive 1 is shown as primary. I have replaced Drive 0 with a new  identical HDD, however, I cannot get the Raid controller to see it. Several reboots, with no luck. The system is setup with Raid 1. Using this URL http://www.sheldonsblog.com/rebuild-degraded-raid-mirror-on-dell-poweredge-840-with-sas5ir-controlle... as a reference, but it doesn't show from any screen that I can see.

Sound on a Dell 3620 does not play the next day

I have a weird one here. And of course, this is the owners PC. The owner has a Dell Precision 3620 tower that recently suffered some problems.

To make a long story short, Dell replaced the motherboard. Since then, the sound will not play the next day with the computer remaining on 24/7. Sound will play fine, then log off and the next morning he logs in and the sound will not play. He has to restart and it starts working again. If he restarts at night when he logs off, no good. He has to log on into the morning, then restart, then andonly then will the sound work all that day.

So far I can find no errors in the system or application OS logs or any indication of errors anywhere. Dell wants him to do a restore and I said no way since that would mean he would have to bring me the computer again to set it back up like it is supposed to be...
