Webcam failed in some (but not all) browsers

Trying to get Google Hangouts to work in Chrome on a client's PC. The webcam constantly 'fails' according to Chrome, and also in Edge. However, it does work ok in Internet Explorer and also in Firefox.

Also tried:
1. Different Windows user profile

2. Reset Edge to defaults

3. Reinstalled Chrome

4. Disable / Enable device in device manager

5. Uninstall / resinstall device in device manager

6. Check for Windows updates & driver updates

The webcam works fine in the Windows Camera app. Also in Teams.

It's a Dell Latitude 5500 which is only a few months old.
Running Windows 10 (2004)

Short of reinstalling Windows, I'm struggling for ideas. There seems to be an issue like this that's been going on in forums for a couple of years with Chrome but I've not seen a solid solution yet.

Any ideas?

PE720 VMWAre Raid Array and VMWare Storage alert/warning

I have a Dell R720xd

VMWare ESXi 6.5 (VSPhere Essential)

Host has 256 GB RAM and 16 1.2 TB drives setup as raid 10 array, currently not in production.

Had one drive fail, swapped.

Now all drives are flashing (green) , been that way for few days

seeing multiple warning System Board 1 Drive 00 Warning Reading : 17

repeats for Drive 0 0 to Drive 0 14

Should I be worried or is this normal? I am going to shutdown and see if raid controller indicates anything. Machine does have iDrac, not certain if we have license to access it, but I will be looking into that.

Dell MD Storage connectivity

Dell Storage MD1420 connected via Dell 12Gbps SAS HBA card to the Dell R530 server. Windows 2019 operating system. Device manager shows volumes but yellow exclamation mark indicates below error. This is newly installed Windows 2019 server and no role or features installed yet. Is there any more step to take?

PowerEdge T320 - iDRAC7 Email Alerts

Hi All,

I'm working on configuring email alerts through iDRAC for our clients.  I've got several that I've come upon where I'm getting "Sending test mail failed" and cannot figure out why.  Within the SMTP Alerts section, I'm using our mail server (external to the client) with no authentication necessary, and our service email address.  I've configured DNS settings according to various other forums, to no avail regardless of what TLD I use in the static DNS entry section.

I've also just upgraded the iDRAC firmware, but it doesn't look to support past version 7.  This email configuration works on various other clients that have iDRAC9, but I'm also seeing this issue with version 8 too.  Has anyone gotten this to work properly with version 7?  TIA!

USB port issues windows 10

I have a Dell XPS tower I got 2 years ago and I have to unplug the mouse and keyboard and switch ports every day to get them to work. Been dealing with it for over a year. I've tried other mouse and keyboards, I made sure the power save settings were not on and I've made sure the system has all the win 10 OS and firmware updates. What else could it be?

Dell VRTX and Databases

Good Morning All!

So we are looking at upgrading an old virtual host to a Dell VRTX system.  However, during the upgrade, we also plan on moving a couple of database servers to the system as well.  When working with a Vendor, they recommended to not run databases on the VRTX due to the limitation on IOPS and recommended an FX2 instead.  Do any of you out there run Database servers from a VRTX and have any issues/concerns?  Is the vendor just trying to upsale something that we don't need at this time?  The VRTX and FX2 are fairly new to me.  I have read some horror stories online regarding the VRTX, but have no actual experience with dealing with one just yet.  Any information is greatly appreciated!  Thank You!

Upgrading firmware on Dell MD3400

I'm running vSphere 6.5U1 in a 2.1 stack (2 hosts, 1 storage array) and I'm planning on updating firmware on the Dell PowerVault MD3400 storage array with dual controllers. The hosts are connected via SAS to the storage array. The Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager is the software used to manage and configure the storage array, and it's running on a virtual machine on this stack. Therefore, here's my question:

How do I upgrade the firmware on the storage array using the Dell MDSM which is running in a vm on the storage array? I have seen the instructions that very simply list the steps, but they don't cover my situation and I'm not totally sure how to handle this.  

If anyone has any insight or ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Connecting two unmanaged switches via fiber.....

We currently have two Dell PowerConnect 2848, unmanaged switches, connected via copper (Ethernet).  We are moving one of the switches a bit further away, requiring a fiber run.  Can you connect two unmanaged switches in separate wiring closets via fiber by simply installing the appropriate SFP transceiver in each switch, then connecting the fiber patch cables.  Do the switches need to be configured to be able to communicate with each other?

Alert! iDRAC not responding, rebooting

Hi,


After installing VMWare OpenManage_Integration 5.1.0, on VMWare 7.0, I tried to update iDRAC firmware. After the console stuck for more than an hour, I restarted my R720.
Since this time, the iDRAC do not seems to respond. I have many error message at boot.

On POST, I can see on top right "Lifecycle Controller Disabled" also having this error message :"Alert! idrac not responding rebooting"

... And reboot

At this reboot, After memory check, the server reboot and continue tells me iDRAC have a problem, but, at least boot.


After BIOS and RAID check, I have an error "Warning! iDRAC initialisation error"
But I can strike F1 to continue or F2 to run system setup program
- If I hit F2, in BIOS option, under iDRAC Setting, I have: "SWC0700: iDRAC is not ready. The configuration values cannot be accessed."
- If I hit F1, the boot sequence...

Dell Vostro 1320 Bios Corruption

I attempted to update my laptop Vostro 1320 bios using dell official Phlash64.exe . after 50% of progress, system freezes for 15 mins, so I restart the system. But now, system can not boot, only fan is working, CapsLock and ScrolLock LED are constantly ON, and NumLock is blinking! No bios post screen. Very horrible situation! Any help is appreciated.

Dell: Invalid share name or repository location

iDRAC9 Enterprise, dual built-in NICs

If I configure one NIC manually as 192.168.3.12/24; gwy 192.168.3.5 and DNS as 8.8.8.8, I get the "Invalid share name or repository location" error when trying to update the firmware.

When I let the same NIC obtain same exact configuration from the DHCP server, the firmware update goes through and runs fine.

Considering the iDRAC only allows one DNS server configured per NIC, every time we need to update the firmware via iDRAC, I have to make 8.8.8.8 the first DNS server in the DHCP scope, so it will be assigned to the NIC in iDRAC. We certainly don't want to do this every time, and I wonder why the firmware fails if NIC is configured in iDRAC manually, but succeeds if we DHCP assign the same configuration?

Dell S-Series Switch Stacking

So far, I only worked with Aruba switches, but now I need to configure two Dell S4112-ON Switches for the first time. The Dell switches are supposed to be the core switches in the network, and should do some routing in the future. Therefore, my plan was to stack those two switches using the QSFP interfaces. However, I found out that those switches are running on OS10 operating system, and according to a Dell forum, OS10 doesn’t support stacking (which is absolutely ridiculous for an enterprise switch in my opinion).

Now, my question is: what’s the best practice for a setup with two switches that are supposed to function as router without stacking?

Dell Server - Firmware Update

I got a notification from Dell that there is a critical problem in the harddrive firmware on our PowerEdge T640 server. I downloaded the update (an .EXE-file) from the Dell website, but now my question is: How can I install the Update through IDRAC? I don’t have physical access to the server.

dell r610 power supply problem

I bought a second hand dell r610 for my home lab that only came with one 502w power supply.

It seems like the power supply has failed and before I go out an buy a replacement I wanted to get a second opinion.

I've checked/changed the leads and wall sockets, but the indicator light on the PS does not come on. I assume that's a good indicator that its a PS problem and nothing else?

Also do you think the problem was that I was running it on a single PSU and not two?

How to Bypass the Screen Prompt

Guys and Gals,

What am I missing here?

I have the T110 Dell Poweredge Server. Great box. But I get this prompt during boot up and I don't see anything related in the BIOS to change it to bypass this prompt.

Anyone know any tricks of the trade to get this to keep moving along and boot without stopping at this prompt?

See the image.

After 5 seconds it just sits there, at this screen. It's pretty annoying. Power outage happens and the box wont boot because it gets stuck here.

Anyone with T110 Poweredge experience who knows a way to bypass this prompt?


I certainly appreciate any help on this,.

Dell T40 OS Installation

Hi

So i need to install an OS on a Dell Poweredge T40 but when i create the RAID (Set on RAID1) and install the OS (Windows Server 2016) the raid drive does not show to allow me to install the windows on that partition.

Is there any settings that need to be changed or any specific way of going about the installation?

Dell S-Series Switch - VLT

I’m new to the Dell S-series (OS10), and I just read a little bit about VLT. It sounds interesting, however there is one thing I can’t find in any whitepaper: How does VLT deal with single-homed devices? Like, when I have Switch A and Switch B in a VLT domain, and one server is only connected to Switch A – will this work, or cause any problems? Also, how about ESX servers, that are connected to both switches, but don’t have Link Aggregation configured in the VMware side? I know that MLAG in the N-series could not deal with those scenarios.
