Dell Server: "The system board 5V PG voltage is outside of range."

Having a tough time narrowing down what issue we are having here.

Unpredicatbly, our Dell Poweredge T320 will power off and will not power back on normally. The error message on the LCD screen and in OpenManage says: "The system board 5V PG voltage is outside of range."

What has brought the server back up in the past, is either using a different wall outlet or battery backup outlet. Or powering up with one PSU connected then connecting the other one after it starts up.

There is nothing else out of the ordinary or marked caution or critical in OpenManage or by any other tests.

Any ideas, experience or insight?

Quad Monitor setup with the DELL XPS15 1975

We have an XPS 15 1975  that we are trying to run a quad monitor setup on. It has 4 usb C ports. Two thunderbolt and two MST. In Addition we have TB 16 Dock. I have update all the drivers and bios. The inbuilt Radeon vega driver supports up to 6 monitors while the intel chip supports only 3? Is there a way to force the labtop to only use vega graphics card?

Raid on Dell R710 array with H700

I need to install larger hard drives on one of my R710 Raid arrays (H700) and can't find anyway to distinguish between the arrays.  I don't want to remove the wrong hard drives.  Two of them are the exact same hard drives.  How can I determine which is which?

Folks, 

A client have a server that one of the Hard Drive Failed and the server is not booting up getting stuck with this message, "Eco erase version: 5.0.13" Fingerprint By echo erase....

Dell Lifecycle Update Stuck Running

I went into the Lifecycle Controller to do firmware updates today.  OS Collector Update failed and iDRAC Update has been running well beyond the allowed task time.  Suggestions?  Let it run, reboot or what?

Dell Powedege x720 degraded mode

Hi,

We are using 2 RAID6 VMs in under physicial server. (DEll Poweredge 720xd wth Perc card model H710p Mini)

1.s Virtual disks are working fine but shown as degraded (can access everything in Windows.)

2.Virtual disks are shown as degraded mode but in windows Hard drive became to RAW mode. (non-accessable in Windows.)


Physical Disks : Unfortunately it has been blinking Green/Amber and as shown as below :


also I saw the logs as below


What I am thinking to do is replace the disk.But it s 5 of 8 blink amber. Which way do i have to follow ?

Disk on same slot keeps on failing : DELL PE R710

Hi, Just want to check with you guys if you ever encounter Disk on same slot keeps on failing on DELL PE R710.

I suspect the SAS/HDD backplane and then replaced but the next day the disk on slot 02 failed again.

Please let me know if you ever encountered and have solved this issue. Thanks

Is this state of the art? Is it worth the price?

Dell - New type BIOS corruption - fix

SO.... this is more a knowledge article, and I figured as it took me several hours of testing, trawling, headbutting walls I would post this to help everyone in the future.

Scenario:
I had a Vostro laptop 2017 (15 3468) that wouldn't power on, from experience I did the normal thing of drop out battery, discharge power etc to release any static, and Voila Laptop powered up. Check logs revealed a chipset error/driver problem " WHEA-Logger Event ID: 17 - A corrected hardware error has occurred ". So I did the Dell detect for drivers/updates and it found the relevant chipset drivers. Including a BIOS update. What I didn't know was this device was 'Bit-lockered'. So the BIOS update royally ruined this machine. (Not to self: ALWAYS read the instruction details on the driver page), It proceeded to then show No dell splash screen, a little back...

MDT 2013 UEFI Win10 Deployment Fails - Boot Drive not Found - Dell Latitude 7290

I am having some difficulty deploying a Windows 10 Enterprise image to a Dell Latitude 7290 via MDT 2013. We've previously just imaged using legacy BIOS and MBR, but I wanted to utilize UEFI w/ Secure Boot going forward.

UEFI is set w/ Secure Boot. RAID=on no legacy

TS recognizes UEFI and diskpart looks to be successful in converting to GPT.

EDIT: I can also see the creation of the FAT32 EFI boot partition at the beginning of the TS.

It seems like the OS installs, but on reboot, the TS fails with:

It looks like diskpart succeeds in converting to GPT, but then can't select a partition?

New Dell Optiplex 5060 and MDT

Hey All,

I have an updated MDT/ADK server going with LiteTouch deployment setup. I can run it successfully on an older Optiplex 7010. It will not run on this new 5060 though. I've disabled Secure Boot, it's already set to UEFI, and I'm not seeing any other settings that would impact this in the BIOS. I keep getting different blue screens, two are: "attempted execute of noexecute memory", and "page fault in nonpaged area". I downloaded the latest drivers for the 5060 today, and had MDT rebuild the ISO completely. I can't think of anything I'm missing, but obviously, there's something...

I support a 100 workstation company, with pure Dell PCs, laptops, servers, etc. 

I have OpenManage Essentials for deploying BIOS, IDRAC, firmware, drivers, etc to servers. 

What do YOU use for the client end?

Dell blade-server ( Model M1000)

Hello Experts,

We have a Dell blade-server ( Model M1000) which has a few servers on it. Our KVM does not recognize it so, I connected a monitor to its VGA monitor port, but I just see a "Free" message on the monitor.

I checked its configuration via CMC and Front end usb for Blade enclosure is enabled.

So, currently I can not connect to the servers on the blade server itself , and the only way to connect to those servers is via remote desktop.

Any idea?

Why cant I create more RAID 1 disks in one go?

Hi guys ,

I've just recently expanded a card slot from 6 enclosures to 8 enclosures. basically I added in 2 enclosures. In this expansion card, virtual disks have not been added since the infrastructure was built.

I am only able to add in 4 or 5 virtual disks (one by one) configured as RAID 1 to these server. After the 4th Virtual disk was installed and starts to initialize. OMSA does not respond when I tried to click on the create virtual disk option.

For example:

I accessed OMSA and created V.Disk 1, 2, 3 and 4. I could not add in V disk 5 because OMSA is not responding to the create virtual disk option.

Id have to repeat the same after the disks have finished initializing in the background. this takes about 2 to 3 hours.

Would appreciate if anyone would weight in on this matter and would be thankful to have a faster and safe solution for...

Server and SQL Licences for VRTX Servers

Hoping someone can help clarify this one.

I have 2 identical VRTX chassis, each one has 2 blades in them with some shared storage  they are in effect replicas, 1 for prod and 1 for DR. Both running ESXI as the hypervisor

Will be using vsphere replication to replicate the VMs from DC1  to the secondary VRTX in DC2

DC 1 is production and has a few software applications on them running Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2014

2 questions.

1) do i need to re licence VMware again on the second chassis, i think i do as the VMware is tied to the ESXI host.

2) what happens with the Server and SQL licences, do they move with the VM's? or do i need to relicence them again on the second VRTX

Dell Battery Return

Hello.

So it seems Dell has changed their battery return process. We have had many M3800 laptops with an "expanding Battery" issue which can mess up the touchpad and actually separate the case from the body of the laptop. Recently the tech who comes and does these repairs told us that we will need to return the batteries because Dell "was getting in to trouble" for how they were doing it. OK, fine.

About 2 weeks after the first battery was replaced, I received a paint can with Vermiculite and a box to return the old battery. Problem was, the can was not big enough to hold said battery. I have tried calling the number (866-653-1627) for the Dell repair center and I have only been able to reach a human once. I have left messages which go unreturned. When I did reach a human I began to inform him that I received the can to return the...

Why does my desktop keeping powering down?

Hi all,

I've been on Spice Works for a couple months now, mostly browsing. I figured I would go ahead and ask for help as to why my computer might be powering off. A little background first, I started school back in September of 2017 for Information Technology and Infrastructure management and I'm liking it a lot (still a noob but I'm picking stuff up pretty quick). Anyway, the desktop I am messing around with is a Optiplex 960. I simply got it for basic server practice. So everything was running fine until the day I installed a older graphics card (Nvidia GT8500). I put the card in the PCIe 16x slot and attempted to look for drivers. As I was searching the internet my computer suddenly powered off and rebooted. It gets to the Dell logo screen and immediately shuts off and does the whole process over. After about 4 times shutting down...

Dell Wyse Thin Client 3040 - Locked out of Administrator Mode in Classic Desktop

Hello,

An end user's Thin Client (Dell Wyse 3040 - ThinOS 8.3.2) stopped booting to the login screen and no longer will even grab an IP address when connected to the network.  On the ThinClients desktop all preferences and settings are grayed out and when I right-click "Administrator Mode" is grayed out as well. I have tried using the "G-key reset" as well as the shutdown reset and none have worked.  Any help is appreciated.

Dell Poweredge R620 power supply swap

PS1 went bad on our Poweredge R620.  It is still running fine off of PS2.  New power supply is ordered.  Is it as simple as pulling PS1 out and sliding the new power supply in?  These are hot swappable, correct?  Just checking before I brick something.  Thank you.
